Although you are a pizza fanatic, do you know the true use of this 3-legged plastic base?
Do you love pizza and will you always take advantage of the opportunity to buy 1 get 1 free on the promotional day to order a few to go home with friends?
But have you ever wondered that when you order pizza home, your cake always comes with a plastic 3-legged base in the middle of the cake? What do they exist for? This answer here!

That white plastic three-legged base is actually called "pizza saver" - it works to prevent the pizza bottom from sticking to the lid of the cake box.
It is known that this 3-legged plastic base was invented on February 10, 1983 by Carmela Vitale from New York and awarded a patent in 1985.
In its patent, the "pizza saver" is said to have a "divine" invention that maintains the structural integrity of the pizza.

Original design of "pizza saver".
We know that, pizza box is made from carton box. When the hot pizza is placed in the box, the area in the middle of the lid is prone to sag under the influence of steam.
The longer the pizza stays in the box, the more steam concentrates on the inside of the box and makes the lid "flaky", easy to collapse. If there is no "backing", the pizza lid will stick to the cheese and pizza fillings until the box opens.

And that "tripod" can handle it all. With plastic material and does not leave too much imprint on the cake (only 3 small dots), the pizza saver will support the center of the lid of the box, not let them "collapse" to damage the cake during storage. And shipping.
